Graduation Today

Graduation. It is a day like no other. A day when young children or young adults move on in life to seek meaning or destiny. Today is my graduation from an abnormal school. The reason I call it abnormal because it's African centered. If you could name a school that was ONLY African centered education, that's great but this is the one I'm at. (I won't exactly name the school yet, reader. Be patient). It's going to be singing, parent flashing cameras in our faces, and even more singing. Personally my voice is a little strained from all the singing rehearsals. Though, I can't complain much. We did actually make progress on our singing because we sounded like road kill at first (Trying to sing "Lift every voice and sing"). The other songs were okay but not exactly great.

I remember the first couple days at my school. 5th grade was a tough year because I was still transitioning from my other school. I remember that I did the wrong homework assignment in math class and I was about to cry (I was bit of a cry baby back then so yeah) but he just told me to relax. It was just an accident. I don't know why I remembered that day so much. Maybe it's because I respect him. Or simply because I wanted to make a good impression on myself. But I'm grateful for him.

I am going to miss my class, even though they annoyed the hell out of me. They made me laugh the most with their ridiculous antics and comments. Even some in the class, I am honored to call a brother or sister. I will miss Dynasia, because she was one of my first friends. She was my popcorn buddy and I remember us laughing about stupid things. Charles, who I considered my brother... I'm going to miss him because of his peculiar ways and his talk of marvel comics. Kaylah Livingston, my girl best friend... I'm going to miss her so much. I am inspired by her because I was not always a reader but watching her read every day at lunch taught me to run with it. I even have a best friend, Andrew, who sometimes was an ass but was so nice. He is my boy best friend because he was so different from me. Sometimes it surprises how we're friends. They're other in this class that I didn't mention but just know I will miss you too. I'm going to miss my teachers, because they helped me become better at reading, math, cultural awareness (history), and science. Science, the most because at first, I would be getting 70s or low 80s on my tests. Later into the year, I got 90s.

Bottom line of this sad speech that made me cry, I will miss Harambee institute of science and technology. It taught me so much, I grateful for that. And because of this place, it taught me to live life. To live like we can't die and that's how we're supposed to feel.
So thank you...
